The Problem:
The customer had developed a series of Microsoft
Access-based programs to manage their paperwork for manufactured parts
inspection and quality control. While the system had been upgraded to newer
versions of Access, and modified several times, it had a number of
deficiencies:
-
Each distinct part machined by the client had its data stored
in a separate Microsoft Access database.
-
Whenever Microsoft updated Access, the older programs would
not run with the new release.
-
With over 2000 separate Access databases, the system had
become impossible to manage.
-
Program fixes had to be distributed to all users on an
individual basis.
The Solution:
Entre Computer Services
developed a new enterprise class system to replace the original work order
system. Implementing an “industrial strength” Microsoft SQL 2005 Database
Server, the new system is administered through a user-friendly intranet web
application, and generates all reports through SQL 2005 Reporting Services.
The advantages were immediate:
-
Central monitoring and control of parts and users for
multiple manufacturing site
-
Central backup of all data
-
Simplified System & Data Maintainability
-
Scalability – the new system can scale up to whatever size
required
-
Extensibility – adding new features to the system is
simplified
-
User–defined reporting
