JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining servers, including supporting Unix based mail system and Linux/Apache technologies. Supports other IT functions which may include: ticket resolution and troubleshooting, on-call support, project lead and technology planning. Ensures IT procedures and policies are followed to meet Service Level Agreements.
MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads technical support for the installation, configuration and maintenance of platforms for daily production requirements and project development.
- Maintains up-to-date documentation and procedures that define the operability of the infrastructure.
- Monitors severs for performance and availability. Makes recommendations when necessary to meet the expected demands.
- Maintains current system tables such as user accounts, hosts definitions, software inventories and DNS configurations.
- Installs/maintains third party software packages as require.
- Maintains current OS and patch levels on all servers and clients.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Skills/Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to carry a pager and respond to 24/7 support
- Ability to debug and modify complex C programs
Experience/Training:
- 5-7 years of Linux/Unix administration experience
- Knowledge of Linux/Unix server commands and utilities (i.e. scheduling, backups, system stats)
- Knowledge of all aspects of system administration (i.e. installation, configuration, use management, 3rd party software license management etc.)
- Experience with one or more server-based operating systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts, network synchronization schemes
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
